The 61st Annual International Conference and Exhibition (AICE) of the Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society (NMGS) officially kicks off today, March 22nd, 2026, at Ceedapeg Hotels and Suites, Ewet Housing Estate, Uyo.

The six-day event, themed “Optimizing Efficiency, Sustainability and Resilience in Natural Resource Management and Infrastructure Development,” will bring together industry experts, government officials, and investors from across Nigeria and beyond.

Governor Umo Eno, PhD, is expected to be the Chief Host, with Honourable Ministers, top government officials, and international delegates in attendance.

The conference will feature technical sessions, paper presentations, exhibitions, and field excursions to notable geosites in Akwa Ibom State, including the ARISE Palm Resort, Ikot Ebom Itam Clay Deposits, and Ibeno Beach.

NMGS President, Ms Rose Ndong, FNMGS, while interacting with journalists, during the NMGS Council meeting at Roshmore Hotel, Uyo, said the conference aims to promote investment opportunities, stimulate the local economy, and showcase Akwa Ibom State’s Geotourism potential. “Hosting this conference presents immense benefits to Akwa Ibom State,” she said. “It will open up investment opportunities in the solid minerals, energy, and infrastructure sectors.”

The conference will focus on sub-themes like energy and mineral development, geosciences and flood control, and geospatial analysis. Participants will also engage in discussions on the new tax regime as it relates to the extractive industry in Nigeria.

The Local Organizing Committee, led by Elder Effiong Essien FNMGS, has worked tirelessly to ensure a successful conference. The event is expected to stimulate the local economy, promote knowledge exchange, and position Akwa Ibom State as a preferred destination for major national and international events.
