–Distributes Cash, Food, Drugs and Health Support to Elderly, Pregnant Women, PWDs and Children

The Ekid Host Community Development Trust, EHCDT, has launched the Second Phase of its Social Protection Programme with the distribution of cash, food items, and health services to 120 vulnerable members across Ekid host communities. Recalled that the first phase was introduced last year, 2025.

The event was held on Saturday, 4 July 2026 at De Xchange Hotel, Church Road, Eket, with the Chairman and Members of the Board of Trustees, Management and Advisory Committees, community leaders, and representatives of the Settlors, Frontier Oil Limited and Savannah Energy Uquo Gas Ltd, in attendance.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Sam Atara, the Secretary of EHCDT said the programme was designed to protect the dignity and well-being of the elderly, persons with disabilities, pregnant women, and children requiring special support, in line with its mandate under the Petroleum Industry Act, 2021.

A total of 120 beneficiaries were supported, comprising 60 elderly, 30 persons with disabilities, 20 pregnant women, and 10 children.

Each beneficiary received one bag of rice, a 10kg bag of beans, 800g Milo health drink, 800g Peak milk, a crate of 30 eggs, and N100,000 cash support.

The elderly also received a walking stick. Children were given Nestle Golden Morn cereal 900g, children’s toothpaste, toothbrush, bathing gel, moisturizing lotion, and a 400g pack of Complan milk.

Pregnant women received a comprehensive maternity and baby care package which included diapers, baby wipes, baby bathing bath, cloth dryer, 4-litre stainless hot water flask, baby clothes, bathing towels, 6 yards of Ankara fabric, nightgown, socks, combs, baby bibs, caps, baby oil, body lotion, powder, hand gloves, baby flannel, cord clamp, suction tube, blades, pads, cotton buds, cotton wool, 500ml disinfectant, coveralls, face towels, a large bowl of Blue Seal Vaseline, and a baby bag.

Vice Chairman of the EHCDT, Mrs. Nelly Ukpong, who presented some of the items to beneficiaries, advised them on proper use.

In a bid to ensure the support translates to improved health, the Trust engaged a dietician who provided a tutorial on proper food intake and its effect on health.

Medical experts were also on ground to check beneficiaries’ vital signs and recommend treatment. A mini pharmacy was set up at the venue where drugs were dispensed free of charge to the elderly and pregnant women.

The EHCDT also highlighted other ongoing projects funded by the Settlors, including post-secondary and postgraduate scholarships, small business grants, starter packs for 80 graduates of its Skills Acquisition Programme, the rehabilitation of the Assembly Hall, construction of a 308-metre block wall perimeter fence at Secondary School, Edo, and the upgrade of electricity substations at Ebok Asak and Ebe Ekpi communities in Esit Eket Local Government Area.

The Trust appreciated Frontier Oil Limited and Savannah Energy Uquo Gas Ltd for the timely funding of the Trust and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that all development initiatives remain impactful, inclusive, transparent, and sustainable.

The EHCDT congratulated all beneficiaries and assured that the Trust will continue to prioritize programmes that promote social inclusion, equity, and resilience in Ekid host communities.

The event concluded with the presentation of items, cash, and drugs to beneficiaries.
