The Eket Federal Constituency Media Professionals Forum, EFCMPF, has dissolved its entire Executive Council and expelled immediate past Chairman, Mr. Itoro Etti, following allegations of gross misconduct and cyberbullying of members.
The sweeping overhaul was approved at an emergency general congress on Tuesday, presided over by the Chairman, Board of Trustees, Dr. Essien Ndueso. The meeting reviewed the forum’s activities since 2023 and resolved to carry out structural reforms to restore cohesion and efficiency.
To further aggravate his misconduct, the erstwhile chairman stormed the meeting with non-members of the forum, suspected to be hired thugs, in an attempt to disrupt proceedings. He questioned why the BOT chairman convened the meeting without his approval. A fracas ensued until the police were called in and he was whisked away.
Members unanimously condemned what they termed the “despicable conduct” of the former chairman, accusing him of failing to convene a single meeting since assuming office in 2023 and of cyberbullying colleagues. The congress thereafter ratified his expulsion from the forum.
The former chairman, Itoro Etti, now risks losing his registration with the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, as the NUJ Constitution allows for revocation of a journalist’s registration if found guilty of professional misconduct or ethical breaches.
To fill the vacuum created by the dissolution, a new Executive Council was immediately elected to pilot the affairs of the body.
The newly elected officers are:
Comrade Enobong Nsima – Chairman (Eket)
Comrade Melford Asuquo – Vice Chairman (Ibeno)
Comrade Ifiok Itiaba – Secretary General.(Onna)
Other officers include:
Comrade Treasure Esop- Assistant Secretary (Onna)
Comrade Ubong Itama- Publicity Secretary (Esit Eket)
Comrade Peace Obiofia Etop – Director of Welfare (Eket)
Comrade Peace Bassey – Treasurer (Esit Eket)
Comrade Theresa Efana, Financial Secretary (Ibeno)
Charging the new team, Dr. Ndueso urged them to uphold professionalism, foster unity, and defend the interests of media practitioners in the federal constituency.
In his acceptance speech, Chairman Nsima pledged transparent leadership, strict adherence to ethical standards, and a focus on capacity building. “We will engage constructively on issues that drive the growth and development of Eket Federal Constituency,” he said.
The shake-up marks a major reset for the forum as members move to rebuild trust and reposition the body for greater relevance.
