IKWE-ODIO ROAD PROJECT: MFON BASSEY LAUDS GOVERNOR ENO

A member of the Eket Federal Constituency Media Professionals, himself the Special Assistant to the Governor on Media, Mr. Mfon Bassey has applauded the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, for the re-award of the 7.6-kilometre Ikwe–Odio road project spanning Onna and Eket Local Government Areas.

Mfon ‎Bassey gave the commendation while appearing as guest on a live radio programme, Arise Akwa Ibom, aired on April 24, 2026, on Comfort FM, Uyo.

‎The programme focused on the theme, “Governance in Action: Reflecting on Key Projects as the Governor Marks His 62nd Birthday.”

Speaking during the broadcast, he described the project as a significant intervention for residents of Eket and surrounding communities.

“Governor Umo Eno has done well for Akwa Ibom State. Aside from other projects executed in Eket LGA, one project we are particularly excited about is the Ikwe–Odio road. We consider it a birthday gift from the Governor,” Bassey said.

He further praised the Governor for approving and releasing ₦123.5 billion to contractors for both newly approved and ongoing road projects across the state, describing the move as a clear demonstration of commitment to infrastructural development.

On the aviation sector, Bassey commended the administration for securing international status for the Victor Attah International Airport (VAIA). He also highlighted the launch of a 15-hectare residential estate near the airport, designed to accommodate over 100 aviation personnel in support of planned 24-hour operations.

Additionally, he noted that the state government has sponsored 15 indigenes of Akwa Ibom for pilot and engineering training, as part of efforts to build local capacity in the aviation industry.
